Find Every Subscription You Still Pay For

I had Claude read three months of my bank statements. It found a subscription I cancelled in May that was still billing me in August. Ten minutes, free, no app.

What you'll walk away with

  • The exact prompt that turns three bank CSVs into a cancel list
  • Where the CSV export hides on your bank site
  • Why you cancel the same day, not this weekend

Twenty six subscriptions came back on my list, and I could name maybe half of them from memory.

01

What you are doing

Here is what you will do:

  1. 1Log into your bank and download the last three months of transactions as a CSV (a plain spreadsheet file every bank can export).
  2. 2Drop the files into a Claude chat and paste the prompt below.
  3. 3Cancel the dead ones from the list it hands back, starting with whatever bills next.
02

The prompt

Copy-paste promptPaste this into Claude with your CSV files attached
Open these CSV files and analyze them. They are the last three months of transactions from my bank and credit cards.

1. Find every recurring payment and subscription. Anything that shows up monthly, yearly, or every few weeks counts.
2. Flag anything that looks like a duplicate (the same service billed twice) and anything that kept billing after a charge that looks like a cancellation or a refund.
3. Flag anything that will bill again in the next three days.

Then give me one list of every subscription with the amount, how often it bills, and the date it will charge me next. Order it by that next charge date, soonest first. For each one, tell me where I would go to cancel it (the website or the app). Put it in an artifact I can check off as I go.

What comes back

One list, every subscription, soonest charge at the top. Mine had 26 rows and added up to five hundred and thirty dollars a month.

04

Get the CSVs out of your bank

Here is where the export usually hides:

  1. 1On your bank site, open the account, find Transactions or Activity, and look for Download or Export. Pick CSV and set the range to the last three months.
  2. 2Do it once per card and account. Subscriptions love to hide on the card you forgot you had.
  3. 3In Claude, hit the plus button, add the files, paste the prompt, send.
05

Cancel the same day

That is the whole thing. Export the files. Paste the prompt. Cancel down the list. Ten minutes, and the money stops leaving.
